The University of Manitoba Bisons are excited to offer our annual Junior Bison High Performance Camps. These camps are geared towards athletes looking to further their athletic skill development in an intense and challenging environment. All camps will be led by University of Manitoba head coaches, assistant coaches, current and former Bison athletes.
Our Strength & Conditioning physical training program, for athletes between the ages of 12 and 18, is consistent with the key principles of Long Term Athlete Development. Our program Strength & Conditioning program will take place in the University of Manitoba's High Performance Training Centre in the new Active Living Center.
Junior Bison Basketball is a year round program that includes 2 program components. Our 2 program components are the Summer High Performance Camp that runs in July each year and our Club Teams for Grades 5-12 that run October-May of each year. These programs are all designed to be a great opportunity for us to see and evaluate players in a competitive environment as wells as allowing up and coming players a glimpse of how we practice, train and compete at the University level. The University of Manitoba Swimming programs philosophy is grounded in the belief that active practice and pursuit of the Olympic Dream principles helps young people develop the necessary skills to reach their full potential in swimming and in life. Junior Bison Swimming is a competitive speed swimming program with a primary objective to swim FAST through creating an environment that celebrates and rewards the enjoyment of the pursuit.
Junior Bison Girls Volleyball is a year round high perfomance developmental program. In the fall we offer skills camps for girls ages 12-18. The Volleyball Club season, for ages 12-18, runs January-May, with tryouts taking place early December. Junior Bison Hockey is a year round high performance developmental program. Our Summer High Performance Camp runs in August or September each year with our Spring Club Teams (ages 8-16) in April and May. Our Brand New Junior Bison Skills Academy is also launching in the Spring of 2018. Our programs are designed to be a great opportunity for us to see and evaluate players in a competitive environment as wells as allowing up and coming players a glimpse into the how Bison’s practice, train and compete at the University level. The Junior Bison Track & Field program focuses on speed development for high school athletes who are pursuing high-level competitive success. The program will be suitable for athletes who already have a consistent background in competitive sport(s) preparation and competition, and would benefit from supplemental speed and power training.
The University of Manitoba Bison Women's Soccer Program is continuing its commitment to excellence by holding regular recruiting events to introduce all interested players to its playing/training philosophy as well as its team culture. Led by Bison Women's Soccer Head Coach Vanessa Martinez-Lagunas, who is a UEFA Pro License holder from the German Soccer Federation, FIFA Women's Soccer Instructor, UEFA Technical Expert and former assistant coach of the U16/U17 German Women's Soccer National Team. These events are open to 10-25 year-old female players who are interested in joining the Bison Women's Soccer Program in the future.
Our Junior Bison Club Tournaments take place on an annual basis. Our Girls Volleyball club program hosts a Club tournament each March or April that includes over 60 club teams and over 600 participants annually.. Our Girls Hockey club program is hosting their first ever tournament in April 2018. All tournaments take place here at our University of Manitoba athletic facilities which are home to our University of Manitoba Bison Athletes and teams.
